Early Life and Education

WEB Benjamin Eric Sasse, pronounced "sæs", was born on February 22, 1972. Growing up in Fremont, Nebraska, Sasse's trajectory led him to serve as student body president at Fremont High School before attending Harvard University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in government. Later, he obtained a Master of Arts degree in liberal studies from St. John's College and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in history from Yale University.

Political Career

Sasse embarked on his political journey by joining the Republican Party. In 2014, he ran for and won a seat in the United States Senate, representing Nebraska. During his tenure, Sasse established a reputation for his conservative views and vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump.

University of Florida Presidency

In February 2023, Sasse took on the role of the 13th president of the University of Florida. His appointment marked a significant shift from his previous political career to the academic realm. As president, Sasse has set priorities such as promoting intellectual diversity, strengthening academic excellence, and fostering a welcoming campus climate.

On Thursday, Ben Sasse, the University of Florida president and former Republican senator from Nebraska, announced that he will resign from his position effective July 31, 2024. He has requested that a presidential search committee be formed to identify his successor.
