Salazar passed away in his sleep in New York City

Ángel Salazar, the Cuban-Puerto Rican actor who played Al Pacino's right-hand man Chi-Chi in the cult classic Scarface, has died at the age of 68. Salazar's friend and longtime rep, Ann Wingsong, told TMZ that the actor passed away in his sleep in New York City.

Salazar was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City. He began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in small roles in films such as The Warriors and Fort Apache, The Bronx. In 1983, he landed his breakout role as Chi-Chi in Scarface, the gangster film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino. Salazar's performance as Chi-Chi, Pacino's loyal and ruthless bodyguard, was one of the most memorable in the film.

After Scarface, Salazar continued to appear in films and television shows, including Punchline, The Big Screen, and The King of New York. He also had a recurring role in the television series Miami Vice.
