Kansas City man who robbed convenience stores while wearing Chiefs gear sentenced to prison

A Kansas City man who robbed two convenience stores while wearing Chiefs gear has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the sentence Tuesday for 39-year-old David M. Jackson. Jackson pleaded guilty in August to two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of armed criminal action. According to court documents, Jackson robbed a QuikTrip at 103rd Street and State Line Road on Jan. 24, 2022. He entered the store wearing a Chiefs jacket and armed with a handgun. He demanded money from the clerk and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Three days later, Jackson robbed a 7-Eleven at 95th Street and Wornall Road. He again entered the store wearing a Chiefs jacket and armed with a handgun. He demanded money from the clerk and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Jackson was arrested on Jan. 28, 2022, after a police pursuit. He was identified as a suspect in the robberies after police released surveillance footage of the crimes. In a statement, Baker said Jackson's "brazen" robberies terrorized innocent victims and put the community at risk. She said the sentence "sends a clear message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated." Jackson's attorney, Patrick Edwards, said his client is a lifelong Chiefs fan who was struggling with addiction at the time of the robberies. He said Jackson is remorseful for his actions and is committed to getting his life back on track.
