Caleb Ferguson: Dodger's Bullpen Hopeful Traded to Astros

Houston Astros Acquire Left-Handed Pitcher in Monday Trade

Former Dodger Ferguson Pitched 46 Innings with 4.84 ERA in 2023

The Houston Astros have acquired left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade on Monday. The 27-year-old Ferguson made his first Opening Day roster in 2023 as a member of the Dodger bullpen, but struggled with a 4.84 ERA in 46 innings pitched.

Ferguson, who was drafted by the Dodgers in the 38th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft, has a 1-2 record with 24 strikeouts in his career. He broke his silence via Instagram on Tuesday, saying goodbye to Los Angeles and hello to Houston.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, have recalled left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson and optioned right-handed pitcher Phil Bickford to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Ferguson was one of several pitchers who struggled in the Dodgers' bullpen last season, posting a 6.35 ERA in 42 appearances.

The Astros, on the other hand, have been looking to bolster their bullpen, which ranked 12th in the American League in ERA last season. Ferguson is expected to compete for a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen.
